It could have turned into a sticky situation, but not the case for members of Manilla Evening CWA Branch. Many hands were on deck to handle the demand for warm damper lathered with butter/golden gyrup at the recent Vintage Machinery Rally at Manilla Showground.
Passers-by sampled, then on many occasions came back for a second helping from the ladies over the two days of vintage machinery display/swap meet. Dampers were supplied in loads by Branch members who all conducted their own little private cook-up sessions during the week leading up to the weekend. Success of the two-dayerwas one of many items discussed by Evening Branch members at last week’s meeting.
Country of Study for 2021 is Malaysia, and focusing on that country is the current colouring in competition being distributed to infant students at various local schools. Closing date for the competition is the end of Term 3. Evening Branch will also hostNamoi CWA Group’s Cultural/International Day at Manilla Services Club on September 23. Then on October 16 from 7pm, a Trivia Night will be held, also at the Services Club. Tables of eight are available at a cost of $10 per person.Great prizes to be won. AgQuip from August 17 to 19 was also discussed with the call for contributions of craft, cooking and helpers directed to members. Namoi Group is selling raffle tickets in the lead up to AgQuip, with prizes of a Weber Barbecue, Pressure Cooker and Air Fryer on offer.
The meeting voted to write letters to support CWA advocacy in the following areas – Minister for Education regarding rural schools not being fully staffed, Federal Member regarding changes to Medicare from July, and NSW Health with regard to inadequate staffing and staff training within rural hospitals – particularly in the areas of suicidal patients and their access to good psychiatrists.
Next year will signal 100 years of CWA in NSW, so a suggestion was made to members to don their thinking caps for celebratory ideas for that milestone. And for the handicraft enthusiasts, a silk ribbon embroidery, hardanger embroidery and candlewicking workshop will be held in Gunnedah on July 31.
Kicking off an initiative by Manilla Evening to give the aged ofManilla Hospital a little light heartedness over coming months was last Friday’s “Show And Tell” High Teawhich included a display of hand-painted silk items along with the reading of an amusing poem – all proving popular with the residents.
