Australia Day plans Barraba in 2023

Barraba’s 2023 Australia Day Awards and celebration will be held at a different venue and time this year. The Awards will be at the Golf Club on the evening of 26 January, followed by a free concert.

The Awards ceremony starts at 6pm with Australia Day Ambassador Dr Tanya Silvereira-Price in attendance alongside Cr Helen Tickle. Then follows with a free concert from 7pm to 10 pm.

The music starts at 7pm with country rock band Brother Hollow. Followed by Al Buchan and The Buchaneers, known for their classic 70s rock sound, the band will be playing Australian music.

Food and drink will be available to purchase at the Golf Club. Gills Food Truck will be at the event and Kylie Kallitsis will be selling grazing boxes. The Golf Club bar will be open from 5pm. It is a licensed premises so no alcohol can be brought to the event from elsewhere.

Barraba’s Australia Day Citizen nominees in 2023 are: Dustin Hiscock, Cody Simpson, Brook Smith, Desmond Brittain, Estrella Hamilton, Lynette Simpson, Peter Squire, Julie Williams and Terry Threlfall.

This year’s Australia Day Ambassador Dr. Tanya Silveira-Price is a Registered Music Therapist, Subject Coordinator with the University of Melbourne and the 2020-2021 inaugural recipient of Australian Music Therapist of the Year. Tanya’s PhD research examined how accessible music-making can impact the hand function and wellbeing of stroke survivors.

The events held in Barraba, Bendemeer, Kootingal, Manilla, Nundle and the Australia Day Concert in Tamworth have been supported using a portion of funding Council received under the NSW Government’s Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program. A total of $287,582 was received through the program.
