Claudia Smith of Barraba is hoping the community and local businesses will get behind her effort to raise funds for Variety – the Children’s Charity to help give Aussie kids a fair go.
On 13th March 2021, Claudia cut off some of her long hair and donated it to Variety to be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia. The wigs make a big difference, giving kids more confidence and improved self-esteem so they can feel like themselves again.
Variety is also given money for the donated hair which goes directly back into Variety’s programs, so Claudia’s hair will also help Variety to provide practical equipment, programs and experiences for many more kids and families facing challenges through disability, rare diseases and disadvantage.
Variety Australia Executive Director, David Small, says people like Claudia make a big difference for Aussie kids.
“Variety doesn’t receive any government funding so every wig and every piece of equipment granted to families is thanks to the amazing efforts of people like Claudia,” said Mr Small.
“We can’t thank people like Claudia enough for their dedicated efforts to help us help Aussie kids.
“Parents of kids who’ve been granted a Variety wig tell us it makes a huge difference to their child’s self-confidence and interest in taking part in social occasions or new experiences.”
Claudia has been growing their hair for 10 years and will be donating 35.5cm to Variety. It means a lot to Claudia to be donating their hair because it will help other children
