Remembrance Day Commemorated

Many residents and school students gathered in front of the Memorial Hall last Thursday in overcast and humid conditions to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The ceremony started with the fire siren sounding for two minutes followed by a minutes silence.

The Last Post was played followed by Manilla Sub-Branch president Bill Thurtell offering The Ode after which Reveille was sounded.

Manilla Sub-Branch member Kirk Bradshaw delivered the Remembrance Day address followed by community groups and associations as well as individuals laying wreaths at the foot of the cenotaph in the foyer of the Memorial Hall. While the wreaths were laid piper Bill Randall played ‘The Lament’.

Sub-Branch Padre Garry Kirk offered a prayer for peace followed by the singing of ‘Abide with Me’ and the National Anthem’ which was accompanied by Gae Faulks playing the piano.

At the conclusion of the ceremony Sub-Branch president Bill Thurtell thanked all for attending the 2021 Manilla Remembrance Day Ceremony.
