From next week, new mums and the active ageing of Manilla will be able to reap the benefits of health professionals Rural Fit starting up exercise classes in the town.
Beginning on Monday July 4 and run under the guidance of one of Rural Fit’s accredited exercise psychologists Nicola Bruce, the hour-long classes will take place at the Manilla Town Hall – the New Mum’s from 9.30am and the Active Ageing from 10.30am.
The current program of classes will run for the next nine weeks as part of funding provided by Healthwise, according to organiser and Accredited Exercise Psychologist Keira Minney (BAppSc – ExPhys).
“Our Mums N Bubs class is targeted at new mums with the aim of getting them back to physical activity in the post-partum period (after having the bub). Though mums would have to provide a GP’s or Women’s Health Physiotherapist clearance to participate. This class will focus on aerobics, strength, core and pelvic floor-based exercises to focus on all things necessary for the return to pre-baby health and wellbeing,” Keira said.
The Active Ageing classes will involve a series of various exercises over the hour, but anyone wishing to join the popular Rural Fit family of exercise lovers should contact Rural Fit in Tamworth (on 6765 9866) to not only nominate but also complete a short assessment by staff.
Rural Fit, which kicked off in Tamworth several years ago, but has branched out into Gunnedah and now hoping looking to secure interest in Manilla, is a member of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) which is the peak professional body for exercise and sports science in this country. And guiding participants through the various types of routines are accredited exercise physiologists who are four-year university qualified professionals specialising in the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for the prevention and management of chronic disease and injury.
